My ramblings.....
sometimes many posts in a day....other times weeks with nothing.....
Usually nothing of great importance more a sorce of cheap entertainment for me....and you if you wish
The Million Minute Family Challenge is a grassroots effort that encourages interaction and communication among family and friends through playing board games. The goal is to encourage at least 1,000 families or groups in each of the 50 states (that’s 50,000 families/groups) to play a board game together for at least 20 minutes (that’s 1,000,000 minutes) from September through December.
Why participate in the Million Minute Family Challenge?
When parents play board games with their children, they are accomplishing more than providing entertainment. Playing board games teaches lessons in sharing and communication. It also helps establish a secure and trusting relationship between parent and child, which is a key part of a child’s development.
Why play board games?
Board games are the perfect fun activity for family and friends of all ages. They help the youngest players develop social skills including following rules, fair play and good sportsmanship. As children grow, board games can help sharpen vocabulary, spelling, math, creative writing and critical thinking skills, all under the appearance of having fun.
How can I participate?
Families and groups are encouraged to block out 20 minutes in their busy schedules to play a board game. Teachers can invite students to play a game in the classroom. Everyone can participate by logging the number of minutes they played board games at www.millionminute.com.
ok, I know I said I wasnt adding any more to the list but, we went on vacation and I brought along another book I had sitting on my desk. I got the name of the book from a blogger/real life friend. And it just seemed so approriate for a vacation to Yosemite. It is listed at number 54. I did enjoy it and would prob read the other book on the same subject by the author. Another book I read was one I had been putting off because I just KNEW once I read it, I would want to read the next in the series....and yep, I do. I also joined some book club that Lisa Whelchel (blair, facts of life...so sad that is how most know her!) is running....off the top of my head I dont remember the title, I dont have the book yet...it has been ordered and I will update on my next book post. Oh and Rabbi schmuley won from the last list. Good book, I would like to read more by him too....I love his opinion on school and grades "For me, grades are nothing but a measure of one thing, and a very narrow measure at that. I dont measure success by grades and you shouldnt either. To me, the more important question is this: Are you intellectually curious? Do you want to know?" He doesnt homeschool, his kids attend Jewish day schools but, I bet he would if he could.

Never been much of a writer....cant make a good story, usually rambling of disjointed sentances
We are going to yosemite next week....so busy thinking about that.(what do we need? do we all own enough pants...answer was no, if you are interested) Rebekah did some classes at the science center....they were pretty good. Rebekah and nathan are doing a culture/geography type class at the kidseum....traveling thru countries via music this time. That is on tuesdays or wednesdays...tuesdays work best...but that makes her a bit late to first Girl scout meeting of the year...sigh they did say we could just come on wednesday but, then I offered to bring in a belly dancing hip scarf....so now I am committed to tuesday (watch me forget the skirt)
I got my hair cut and re-dyed today...and we are now officially a tv addicted family in my eyes......DVR was installed today....sigh I hide my head in shame lol
Looks like the Angels will make the ALDS they only need to win tonights game... I didnt get selected in the lottery to purchase tickets ::::sob::::
What else have we done since the first few days of September???? Laundry ha ha...that is never ending....oops dryer just shut off.....bought 2 out of 3 kids new shoes...child #3 doesnt need shoes....she is well on her way to making Imelda Marcos jealous.
Oh dance started.....same week as the discovery classes and the same week Kidseum classes started...wow was that a week. Rebekah has jazz from 430-530 mondays followed by 530-630 ballet...then christine at the same studio has belly dancing from 830-930, then rebekah has ballet again on wednesdays...515-615....different time which makes it more difficult to remember.
Finally got our music/music history curriculum...now to actually use them.
Oh and anyone doing the million minutes family challenge? ? We joined with a group....our park day group and have not managed alot of minutes....but those we have have been with the game "Blink"
Oh and I have 2 jalapeno plants.....one flowered and I have 3 small Jalapenos on it and then it WILTED! I have no clue why. I keep trying to bring it back but it has been rather unsuccessful . Maybe the rain we are supposed to have might help it. Although I have yet to actually see the rain and every time I check the hour by hour forcast.....it is due rain later and later.....I wont be holding my breath.
Ok done rambling for now. Need to give 2 dirty children a bath before going off to grandmas for Yom kippur meal. Give yourself a medal if you read all of it. lol
and then I realized that I have already done this song but, I dont care....and if you care Dont read it lol Phil Vasser "Just another day in Paradise" The actual video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yakW10rgKX0 embedding disabled so you will have to click on the link......
not too bad of a live filmed version (better then the one I posted last time, I think)
The kids screaming, phone ringing Dog barking at the mailman bringing That stack of bills - overdue Good morning baby, how are you? Got a half hour, quick shower Take a drink of milk but the milk's gone sour My funny face makes you laugh Twist the top on and I put it back There goes the washing machine Baby, don't kick it. I promise I'll fix it Long about a million other things
Well, it's ok. It's so nice It's just another day in paradise Well, there's no place that I'd rather be Well, it's two hearts And one dream I wouldn't trade it for anything And I ask the lord every night For just another day in paradise
Friday, you're late Guess we'll never make our dinner date At the restaurant you start to cry Baby, we'll just improvise Well, plan B looks like Dominoes' pizza in the candle light Then we'll tippy toe to our room Make a little love that's overdue But somebody had a bad dream Mama and daddy Can meand my teddy Come in to sleep in between?
Yeah it's ok. It's so nice. It's just another day in paradise. Well, there's no place that I'd rather be Well, it's two hearts And one dream I wouldn't trade it for anything And I ask the lord every night For just another day in paradise

For just another day in paradise Well, it's the kids screaming. The phone ringing Just another day Well, it's Friday. You're late Oh yeah, it's just another day in paradise
I have too many books to read.....so I am not adding any new books (although I have them, I am displaying restraint for now)

What should I read next? Ellis Island? Schmuley? (would be ironic to start today), Thomas Jefferson? hmmm
She had a blast as usual. Her counselors told us she was really afraid of the dark, which puzzled us but they said it was REALLY dark with outdoor noises so, maybe that freaked her out. AND that another girl in the cabin wanted complete darkness to sleep.
And now she is antsy at home, making a PITA of herself which is her usual MO after being gone.
I overhead one of the counselors telling about a special guest on the island. So, on the way home I asked rebekah about it. She said oh yah I remember him, we ate with him and he stayed all week. The guest? Tom Arnold. In recent years he has been a big supporter of the camp, even hosting the gala as I recall.
She wore her dress for fancy dinner night, as often as they would let her she says. Good thing it came from goodwill. And has learned this fantasically annoying song on disco night. Hmm I should look for it on Youtube.
She also said she climbing the climbing wall this time. Last time she was too scared....perhaps because last time she refused to wear her glasses. I told the counselors before I left that they are pretty manditory for her to see.
She was happy that she wasnt the only oddball this time. By oddball, I mean the only one in her cabin skipped during med times....
Last time she filled her disposable camera so, I gave her 2 this time. She didnt fill either of them....
I bought the specimens (aka the frogs) from http://www.biologyproducts.com/
Bio Corporation.
I have a few other science catalogs that carry this kind of stuff but, they seemed to offer the best packages and how to guides, as well as the best cost on the disposal aprons and gloves, which Ivan also uses for work (the gloves that is).
They said it takes approximately 2 weeks to ship.....It will be a week tomorrow since I placed the order so, we dont actually have them yet. Soon tho'
Yah I know it has been awhile....because I was having issues finishing a book. I like the author, I like the book, I like the subject (true crime) but this time it was so messed up, so many victims, so many suspects, so many details, it took me forever. Not to mention a bit of a large book(in terms of pages) so not so easy to tote around everywhere, like I would normally do. Not sure what I am going to read next.....I feel like I need to pick something that is a quick read because I have fallen so far behind in completing this list

Took 2 kids to get head shots....now would be a good time to mention one of said kids is totally amped and hyper because she leaves tomorrow for camp....
Grocery store....getting only what I remembered running out of because I was on my way home and remembered we were out of cream cheese for on the road bagels tomorrow (above mentioned child has to be in Marina del rey at 9am.....)
One complete load of laundry (what a slacker, I normally do 3)
Located most of my homeschooling supply catalogs, for 2 purposes, 1 for getting rid of old ones, second to try and finally figure out WHAT we will use for our art or music history.....Christine is voting for music....Claiming she will teach it. And while that is fine, I just dont know WHAT I will use.....open for suggestions if anyone has any.
in process of cleaning out catalogs, we added something to this years plans. Both Nathan and Rebekah took interest in the Bio Corporation catalog (wwww.biologyproducts.com) and their specimens. Which of course, caught DH eye.
So, we have now ordered one frog kit with plans to dissect on the weekends in the carport with the neighbor and his 2 kids. If that goes smooth, they plan to move on to sharks. We also bought gloves (DH uses them for work and this place was WAY cheaper then the parts supply house) in Large and small for the kids. And disposable aprons. I hope this goes good. It could be a really fun thing for this year. And you would not believe the stuff they have available, bull testicle anyone?
hmm, just heard crashes outside and I find oldest child standing on the side of my vegetable containers....
Funny how when I look at just today, I dont feel very productive but the weekend as whole, reallly was..... then again, its only 230
Been so busy trying to get ready for school...and get schedules down...not much free time. Christine started one college tuesday, the other starts monday....so I need to have those down too.
But, it is getting smoother and then maybe I will have more time to blog, or more things to say.
Still trying to find an art or music history/appreciation for this year. My story of the world cd has suddenly grown legs....right when we read the Treehouse series book on mummies and pyramids. I gave up looking and spent the money for new. Bad me. But, I really want it now.
Rebekah heads off to camp again next week. She doesnt know yet. I cant stand the 4 billion times a day question of when do I leave for camp. Some people look at me funny when I say I am sending my 7yr old off to camp. She loves it and could care less. And I think it is important for her to be around and see other kids with heart defects who might be limited in what they can or can not do and for her to know she is not alone. Many "heart" kids dont get that chance and grow up just thinking they are really weird.
I love going to the Farmers market. The bigger the better as far as I am concerned. More things to choose from. We bought: 2 eggplant....the italian ones....the actual egg shaped ones, although we saw Japanese, Chinese and fairy tales (I have seeds for fairy tales) 2 bags of zucchini 2 bags of blue lake beans the usual container of apple juice...that everyone is afraid to drink because it tastes good and they want to savor the taste fresh grapes....green and red...later we saw black too but we already had a ton of grapes there was a juice vendor we had not seen before...we bought apple peach juice from her....tastes more like a smoothly style drink or a daiquiri then a juice....not think like those tho Potato bread banana nut bread 2 tomatoes...because I couldnt decide and fresh salsa
I think that sums it up. They actually had fresh organic chickens.....but since right off I didnt have a plan for them I did not buy them
We have a ton of plums from a customer so we kept the fruit to a minimum this time.
There was a vendor there with a pear squash. I was curious but decided against it. It was big and shaped just like a pear (duh) but looked in terms of skin more like a summer squash...but the shape reminded me of a winter squash....but it is too early for winter.... think I will google it to see if it comes up.
OH and my own zuchini is starting to sprout.
EDIT TO ADD: Google did not turn up the squash we saw...it turned up a squash/papaya thing....much smaller then what we saw... maybe I will be brave next time and give it a whirl

I have no clue if I did this right....but I waiver between 2 answers....one answer gets me a cat (see below), the other gets me a fish whatever
You Would Be a Pet Cat
Independent and aloof, you don't like to be dependent on anyone. And as for other people, you can take them or leave them. You often don't care. You live your life by your own rules. And you have deep motivations that no one truly understands.
Why you would make a great pet: You're not needy or greedy... unlike other four legged friends.
Why you would make a bad pet: You're not exactly running down to greet people at the door
What you would love about being a cat: Agility and freedom
What you would hate about being a cat: Being treated like a dog by clueless humans
been reading...or actually Re reading the Harry potter books. I am almost done with 6....could prob finish tonight but I am beat!
Got up early this morning to take the oldest to camp. She is off on a mast ship for a week. They are doing marine biology, astronomy, and learning how to sail the ship....and many more things too but, I am tired...
Oh goody my cell phone just rang....and now I am listening to a telemarketer from Wyndham hotels....or something....geez he needs some practice.
Vlad won the home run derby tonight....do you care? I thought it was neat. Cant say I "care"
Ok I am done listening to the guy....darn cell phone cut off....ok not really....
Visited a used book store on sunday...now I have MORE things to read....
Had a icky dinner at applebees....ok not really, mine was fine. Ivans and Christines was apparently awful. I didnt want a taste.
Went to Costco saturday WHOOO HOOO not really. I will let you know when I figure out how the heck I spent what I did.
Rebekah has a Hula class tomorrow rofl should be cute.
Christine started swing dance last Thursday. There were 2 other girls there we knew. Christine had a good time and enjoyed getting to know one of the girls. They also had fun people watching. From those that had a few drinks before, to those that had no clue what deodarant is to those who were overly paranoid about smelling and marinaded in things to make them smell better.
My veggies still are attracting bugs....I am trying to get rid of them but not too much luck. The heat looks like it is wiping out my peas :( they are more of a spring or fall veggie anyway and I have more seeds to try again, if they go. I am not giving up but just in case.
I think my computer needs to be rebooted. I keep hearing IM messages but then I dont have any that I can see. Hope no one thinks I am ignoring them lol
Christine left for camp today. She is spending 5 days aboard a mast ship. So, I choose this song for her.
It's not far down to paradise At least it's not for me And if the wind is right you can sail away And find tranquility The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me
It's not far to never never land No reason to pretend And if the wind is right you can find the joy Of innocence again The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me
Sailing Takes me away To where I've always heard it could be Just a dream and the wind to carry me And soon I will be free
Fantasy It gets the best of me When I'm sailing All caught up in the reverie Every word is a symphony Won't you believe me
It's not far back to sanity At least it's not for me And when the wind is right you can sail away And find serenity The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me
I just had to use self restrant during a quick, last minute trip to office depot.
Poor planning and I ran out of Steno books for work. So, I had to run out and get more.
Did I tell you my, from seeds, bell peppers aren't growing? I am totally bummed and plan on going back to the nursery where I got my tomato plants next week to get a plant....giving the seeds just a little extra time, just in case.
OK, so office depot is right next door to ACE hardware....I thought, let me look to see if they have bell pepper plants. They had LOADS of basil (and so do I....want some anyone?)and 2 pepper plants but, they were Jalapeno. AND ONE already has 3 peppers on it.....
But, unless I threw the kid's wading pool away or the bikes or the BBQ, I dont have the space for one more pot....and while I have 2 pots that dont seem to be growing, one is the kids (Christines) cat nip, the other is for my pepper. I cant replace the catnip, it isnt mine and I really want bell peppers, they are far more useful then Jalapenos....
So, after pricing pots (yes I went inside) I finally used my self restrant and left the poor, lonely Jalapenos, already fruiting too, there.....
Of course, I am blogging this instead of adding the columns for sales tax like I am supposed to be doing so, that is bad self restrant....
changes indicated by bold, as usual...updated so soon because I KNEW I forgot a book but didnt know what....

"Candle in the Wind" by Elton John... the one he did as a tribute for Princess Diana.
I am NOT one of those totally obsessed Diana fans, thats my mom lol However, I really like Elton John, I really like this original, and of course the remake....maybe because HE put such passion into it. And I figured this was as good a time as any for this musical monday
I have gone back and forth with WHAT video I would use. Finally decided on this one from the funeral....there were a few that showed only Diana pics in a montage....and what I like so much is how personal this was to Elton.....and you dont see that in those. Unfortunately, there isnt one that just shows him singing....you have to look at all the people crying too...
did you know someone has broken the entire funeral down and uploaded it in pieces to youtube????
and the Lyrics for those that need them: Goodbye England's rose May you ever grow in our hearts You were the grace that placed itself Where lives were torn apart You called out to our country And you whispered to those in pain Now you belong to heaven And the stars spell out your name
And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never fading with the sunset When the rain set in And your footsteps will always fall you Along England's greenest hills Your candle's burned out long before Your legend never will
Loveliness we've lost These empty days without your smile This torch we'll always carry For our nation's golden child And even though we try The truth brings us to tears All our words cannot express The joy you brought us through the years
And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never fading with the sunset When the rain set in And your footsteps will always fall you Along England's greenest hills Your candle's burned out long before Your legend never will
Goodbye England's rose May you ever grow in our hearts You were the grace that placed itself Where lives were torn apart Goodbye England's rose From a country lost without your soul Who'll miss the wings of your compassion More than you'll ever know
And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never fading with the sunset When the rain set in And you footsteps will always fall you Along England's greenest hills Your candle's burned out long before Your legend never will

NOTHING except that my house is a giant petri dish. Everyone has been sick, most with different symptoms.....ear infection, pink eye and canker sores included.
FUN
and I have been re reading the Harry Potter books....Started last saturday, then didnt read much for a few days. I should have book 3 done tonight....Re reading before the new one comes out so the details can be fresh in my mind....
I will add them to my book list later....maybe today, maybe a week from now....
Oh and my peas have some kind of pest.....Hopefully the stuff I bought today will take care of it!
This is the acoustic version, where she uses the dulcimer....which I think is a neat instrument. Unfortunately, the clip comes from the Martha Stewart show.
For those who just cant let the original go...here is the original video in all its glory (which I really like)
"Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick, and think of you caught up in circles confusion-- is nothing new Flashback--warm nights-- almost left behind suitcases of memories, time after--
sometimes you picture me-- I'm walking too far ahead you're calling to me, I can't hear what you've said-- Then you say--go slow-- I fall behind-- the second hand unwinds
chorus: if you're lost you can look--and you will find me time after time if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting time after time
after my picture fades and darkness has turned to gray watching through windows--you're wondering if I'm OK secrets stolen from deep inside the drum beats out of time--
chorus: if you're lost...
you said go slow-- I fall behind the second hand unwinds--
chorus: if you're lost... ...time after time time after time time after time time after time
Well, I figured since Mom never gets real detailed or posts about.... just life, I figured I'd do it for her.... considering I've already hacked into her account. I think I'll do it with nice spacing and correct punctuation too.
So, here is an overly detailed account of the day. Pretty uneventful, but since I'm here...
Mom woke up early as usual. I've no idea what time, but I was woken up by the barking of my sister's dog alarm clock thing.
Mom was on the computer, probably doing the tax things again for our stupid uncle whom I'm somewhat annoyed with at the moment. I got myself some fried rice breakfast. I made the mistake of giving the dog all of the meat that was in the fried rice.
Later on we went to Old Navy. That store was pretty amazing since I found jeans that fit on the first try. Mom didn't find anything, however. That sucks. Bekah found pants, but they were too big. When we went to pay, the two little ones tried throwing everything they could find in the cart. We didn't need a surfboard chew toy for the dog. The dog will only use one chew toy anyways.
We packed up and moved along to the grocery store. Children were running around so I finally just picked up Bekah and put her in the cart. She whined. Nathan eventually started running around so I picked him up and carried him like a baby which only made him scream and cry. Mom wandered around finding everything and eventually took Nathan, still holding him like a baby. We checked out and went home.
Stuff went on downstairs, but I don't know what. Children fought and Mom did something on the computer. I napped, practiced, and/or listened to music.
Dad came home and my parents made dinner. The two of them had a good time making awful jokes about the littered-with-presents backyard. Before dinner, too. Yuck.
Dinner was good, but I would've liked onions thrown into my burrito. Mom forgot cheese in her burrito. Nathan wouldn't eat as usual.
We went to Starbucks later on and Mom insisted on putting the game on the radio. What an addict. I ordered the load of stuff this family drinks and something for myself. Why? I don't know. It was tea since I don't drink coffee, but it still wasn't even very good.
As my sister and I waited in line for our drinks to be called (Mom ran down to the bank), she started going insane. She heard the word 'stickers' mentioned and started demanding them. The employees down there have some inside joke about stickers and sometimes place them on cups. She begged and pleaded too many times to count for said stickers, but the employee didn't hear her since she was making drinks using the loud machine. The guy I was standing near looked down at her and told her he could get her stickers. He went over and asked an employee and they gave him the whole thing of stickers. He let her pick one and gave it back. She ended up with some deer.
We all went home and sipped drinks. Bekah had to write some standards that I doubt she ever finished. She's finally asleep and I think only got to sleep a half hour ago.
I think everyone but myself is asleep....
Maybe I'll find something great to post later...
Oh, by the way, Mom.... I need a new computer recharger. Kthnx.
I say witty things all the time.Clever things too. Witty and clever.... Clever and witty.... Clevitty.
But does anyone listen?
Nooo.... Why would someone ever do that?
When she finally decides to listen it's only when I repeat what someone else has said!
I could quote her, but the only things that have come out of her mouth today disgust me. Talk of sucking the presents the dog has left in the backyard through a straw, boobs that quack like ducks, etc.
I leave you with this little gem from season two...
This could easily be my house....and I guess in the end, it isnt so bad....
"Watching You" by Rodney Atkins
Artist/Band: Atkins Rodney Lyrics for Song: Watching You Lyrics for Album: If You're Going Through Hell
Drivin’ through town just my boy and me With a “Happy Meal” in his booster seat Knowin’ that he couldn’t have the toy ‘til his nuggets were gone. A green traffic light turned straight to red I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath. His fries went a flyin’, and his orange drink covered his lap Well, then my 4 year old said a 4 letter word It started with “S” and I was concerned So I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to talk like that?”
Chorus: He said, I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that kool? I’m your buckaroo, I want to be like you. And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are. We got cowboy boots and camo pants Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad I want to do everything you do. So I’ve been watching you.
We got back home and I went to the barn I bowed my head and I prayed real hard Said, “Lord, please help me help my stupid self.” Just this side of bedtime later that night Turnin’ on my son’s Scooby-doo nightlight. He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees. He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands Spoke to God like he was talkin’ to a friend. And I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to pray like that?”
Chorus: He said, I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that kool? I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you. And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are. We like fixin’ things and holding moma’s hand Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad. I want to do everything you do; so I’ve been watching you.
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug. Said, “My little bear is growin’ up.” And he said, “But when I’m big I’ll still know what to do.”
Chorus: ‘cause I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that kool? I’m your buckaroo; I want to be like you. And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are. By then I’ll be strong as superman We’ll be just alike, hey, won’t we dad When I can do everything you do. ‘cause I’ve been watchin’ you. hey yeah uh huh
I have no yard but oh so enjoy it.....many moons ago, I dug up a large area behind my dads garage for my garden. Bush beans, broccoli, corn and hmmm carrots or radishes....although I don't care for radishes when planting size wise they work pretty good....and I know lots of people that like them.
A few years back we attempted a small container garden without too much luck....a few beans....but mostly we grew white flies.
OK I actually have been craving gardening again......been staring at the old containers and finally....a bit late in the season....I did it
Currently growing carrots, bush peas, tomatoes, and basil. Waiting for Catnip to spout. Will be planting bush beans (color trio variety), and green peppers..... I have seeds for a few more things that Rebekah insisted we have but really lack the container space. The carrots are a long trio of color variety....I have since learned not a good choice....hard to grow long carrots in less then ideal soil. The peas should do good as they currently look really hardy. I left the basil planting to DH and well, it has issues....he way over planted....we have ground cover, not basil plants....I tried thinning....by moving some but those moved died....but those still in the container look good. The tomatoes are two types, a 8oz tomato and a small cherry....I have read the catnip is almost weed like and is a member of the mint family....should be interesting. I joined an email list for container gardening. I bought a container blueberry but, they wont send it to me til end of next winter (because of our zone). I also learned how to container garden corn....and pineapple...which sounds like fun.
I currently am waiting for a mini cantaloupe that is supposed to do good in containers and lemon cukes....although I don't like cukes too much, I thought we could have fun pickling them.
OH and the one that makes DH think I have flipped my lid. I ordered mushroom kits....white button and portabella.
I have also located a container avocado and nectarine....but no room for them...yes I am showing restraint.
Rebekah wants to grow cauliflower too.....I found a good container seeds for cauliflower but they were out of it...prob a good thing.
I also have broccoli seeds and radish seeds that Rebekah insisted we needed.....no where to put them tho'
Oh and I learned about SWCs....self watering containers....the authentic ones are a fortune to buy but you can make your own and sometimes buys small knock offs...(same concept, different design...but not really very big) which is what I have the catnip in and plan to put the green pepper in.
I also hear that Jalapenos are good bug repellant plants....maybe I will NEED to have some of those
Procrastinating (gosh that doesnt look right) I have 3 more bank statements to enter in quickbooks, which I dont like but the accountant/BIL does. i like Quicken....you are supposed to be able to import quicken files to quick books but BIL doesnt know how.... He didnt want my files so I stopped doing them. He called last sunday, he wants them sunday (actually he wanted me to mail them to him sooner) I also could stand to do a bit of laundry...got a bit behind thursday go figure....and with rebekah's recital I didnt get any done today and with Fathers day tomorrow prob wont get any done then.
And all I want to do is go to bed...
did I mention my nose hurts and Its a bit black and blue? Unlike dans bruise....mine did NOT occurred under the influence of booze....and I know how it happened..... After a decent day friday, we took nathan to the doctors and for some reason Rebekah got really riled up.... as I bent over to say you need to settle down NOW...she BOUNCED Up....into my nose.....now I have 3 kids, this isnt a first but good god it hurt.....I saw stars, black at the side of my vision, I sat down, saw stars again...wowza it hurt....and still hurts now....and right in the wrong spot (like any spot is good but this is the wrong spot....it is where the other side of the coffee mug hits your nose when you take those last few drinks)
do you have any clue how many of these trains we had? They are now in a box waiting to go to the post office....
My son has had a lead level screening because many are missing paint....
and I am missing some of the ones on the list, by missing I mean I know I own but I cant find
My car is back from the body shop, only yesterday in the mist of a crisis, I realized the rear interior panel for access to the taillights is missing...yep missing On my list of people to call when my new week starts.
Rebekah has a recital tomorrow....she has to be there at 10.....she usually doesnt function before 9.....
We have been to the doctors office twice this week....all of which are really minor in the scheme of things......
Tuesday and wednesday werent bad as I recall at the moment but my week is a blur....
one of these days I will blog about it. When it begins to eat me up, I will write it down. and I will feel better....
Took my a year to write it down after bethy died....but once I wrote it down it stopped haunting me. I sealed the letter and mailed it off.
This time I will write it here and try desperately not to edit it to death...as I am known to do....
for those who the curiosity is killing them, read the blog at the side titled randomness.
And yes I know I have been tagged, I will get there...but I should be in better spirits or who knows what I will decide as an answer....
I was thinking about what is planned for the summer and it occurred to me, my children get to experience soooooo much....that is my favorite part about Homeschooling. It allows them the time to explore things.
Christine has learned sign language and had the opportunity to use it alot. She will be attending a silent weekend over the summer. She is also doing a summer camp at sea. They will learn how to sail and work the masts on a ship. And live on the ship for the week. They will get marine biology and astonomy too. She also has some swing dance classes lined up for the summer and a cake decorating class. In the fall at the community college, she plans to continue her sign language and take a music mixing (i think it is) class along with an art history class. She is currently upstairs practicing her bass. I think she has lessons starting this week. Maybe she will let me know HA HA. She also had a cooking class scheduled but that has been canceled.
Rebekah is taking an art class in the summer, a play gym style class...playful gymnatics (kids gym....), a hula class thru her dance studio, A dance camp (oh yah christine has that too), and a week long day camp at the discovery science center. Girl scouts is pretty much over for the summer but, that is something too I really dont think we would have time for if they were in school. I am actually looking for a few more dance or jumping type classes for rebekah. She loves to dance but with the auditory delay issues she doesnt get it as quick and I would love to give her a bit extra so she doesnt stikc out sooo much.
Nathan is taking an art class too...but, he is content and still young enough to be happy staying home with mommy.
Both Rebekah and nathan want to take Karate. That will wait til fall.
But, I just love seeing the kids explore new things and interests to THEIR hearts content....or my pocket books content....whichever comes first (it is usually the pocket book!)
"Shooting Star" by Bad Company..... video is actually paul rodgers solo-ing the song....he was the lead singer of Bad Company at the time of the song. The only other version I can locate is Bo Bice singing it but, it isnt the whole song, only one performed for song check.
I could listen to Bad Company for hours....
Johnny was a schoolboy when he heard his first Beatle song, 'Love me do,' I think it was. From there it didn't take him long. Got himself a guitar, used to play every night, Now he's in a rock 'n' roll outfit,
And everything's all right, don't you know?
Johnny told his mama, hey, 'Mama, I'm goin' away. I'm gonna hit the big time, gonna be a big star someday', Yeah. Mama came to the door with a teardrop in her eye. Johnny said, 'Don't cry, mama, smile and wave good-bye'.
Don't you know, yeah yeah, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you know, don't you know. Don't you know that you are a shooting star, And all the world will love you just as long, As long as you are.
Johnny made a record, Went straight up to number one, Suddenly everyone loved to hear him sing the song. Watching the world go by, surprising it goes so fast. Johnny looked around him and said, 'Well, I made the big time at last'.
Don't you know, don't you know, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you know, oh, yeah, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, yeah, And all the world will love you just as long, As long as you are, a shooting star.
Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you know, yeah, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, now, And all the world will love you just as long, As long you are you.
Johnny died one night, died in his bed, Bottle of whiskey, sleeping tablets by his head. Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day, If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play
Oh oh oh, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you know, yeah, don't you know', Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you know, yeah, Don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you, don't you, don't you, don't you, Don't you know, don't you know, oh, yeah, you are, Yeah, a shooting star, yeah, oh oh oh oh oh...... Don't you, don't you know that you are a shooting star, Don't you don't you know......

"I want a new Duck" by Weird Al A parody of "I want a new drug" by huey lewis (right?)
I know many of you do not share my appreciation for Weird Al but isnt that the point of Musical Mondays?
Not weird al's video but better then the anime (sorry Kaleb) ones I kept finding
Woh oh
I want a new duck One that won't try to bite One that won't chew a hole in my socks One that won't quack all night
I want a new duck One with big webbed feet One that knows how to wash my car And keep his room real neat
One that won't raid the ice box One that'll stay in shape One that's never gonna try to migrate or escape Or I'll tie him up with duck tape
I want a new duck A mallard I think One that won't make a mess of my house Or build a nest in the bathroom sink
I want a new duck One that won't steal my beer One that won't stick his bill in my mail One that knows the duck stops here
One that won't drive me crazy waddling all around One who'll teach me how to swim and help me not to drown And show me how to get down How to get down baby
Get it? ***** ***** *** **** **** *** ***
I want a new duck Not a swan or a goose Just a drake I can dress real cute Think I'm gonna name him Bruce
I want a new duck Not a quail or an owl One that won't molt to much One that won't smell too fowl
One that won't beg for breadcrumbs Hangin' around all day He'd better mind his manners Better do just what I say Or he's gonna be duck patte, duck patte, yah, yah *
Well today is memorial day..... so knowing there were many current "thank you to our troops" songs....I was off to find one, only I totally blanked out....thanks to my daughter.....she reminded me of one, which led me to another.... I will post both here...and oddly both are Toby Keith. Please leave me comments on what songs you can recall that give thanks to our troops for the job they do....
Neither are original videos for the songs....I couldnt find those....
First up is "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" often subtitled "Angry American"
American Girls and American Guys We’ll always stand up and salute We’ll always recognize When we see Old Glory Flying There’s a lot of men dead So we can sleep in peace at night When we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army Where he lost his right eye But he flew a flag out in our yard Until the day that he died He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me To grow up and live happy In the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love Has fallen under attack A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in From somewhere in the back Soon as we could see clearly Through our big black eye Man, we lit up your world Like the 4th of July
Hey Uncle Sam Put your name at the top of his list And the Statue of Liberty Started shakin’ her fist And the eagle will fly Man, it’s gonna be hell When you hear Mother Freedom Start ringin’ her bell And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Justice will be served And the battle will rage This big dog will fight When you rattle his cage And you’ll be sorry that you messed with The U.S. of A. `Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass It`s the American way
Hey Uncle Sam Put your name at the top of his list And the Statue of Liberty Started shakin’ her fist And the eagle will fly Man, it’s gonna be hell When you hear Mother Freedom Start ringin’ her bell And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Next is, "American Solider"
I'm just trying to be a father, Raise a daughter and a son, Be a lover to their mother, Everything to everyone. Up and at 'em bright and early, I'm all business in my suit, Yeah,I'm dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots. I don't do it for money there's bills that I can't pay. I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway. Providing for our future's my responsibility, Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be.
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been too strong, I just work straight through the holidays, And sometimes all night long. You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door, Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core.
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price, I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice. Oh, and I don't want to die for you, But if dyin's asked of me, I'll bear that cross with honor, 'Cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an American soldier, an American, Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand, When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right, I'm out here on the front lines, So you can sleep in peace tonight. American soldier, I'm an American,
American Soldier, An American
I picked the order because the first video clearly address other wars and not just Iraq....for those who read that arent so happy with the current war. My dad served in Vietnam....as a Seabee....his dad also served in the Navy....twice....once in WW2 and again on his own accord in Korea.....
In honor of a show I find rather amusing.... Country's version of weird al
"How Do You Milk a Cow" by Cledus Judd
Yeah I was always the lazy one, A Southern Californian, But I've got some kinfolk on the Mason-Dixon line. So this summer just for fun Hopped in my DeLorean And headed for my uncle's farm for a short time.
I thought that I would be huntin' and fishin'. I misunderstood him somehow. So far there's nothin' but chores here to mention. I didn't mind feedin the sows.
But HOW DO YOU MILK A COW? How do you milk a cow? I wasn't in FFA. This cow must think i'm crazy Up under it this way. I'm sittin' here a pullin', but there ain't nothin' comin' out. Oh E I E I O… How do you milk a cow?
Yeah I love it here in Tennesse, But these farmers all make fun of me. Can't haul much hay in a tiny sports car. So I got myself a 4 wheel drive, Learned to spotlight deer at night, And I've got shearin' sheep right down to an art.
One thing's for sure, I hate shovelin' manure, It gets all over my overalls. Them horses need shoein' I hear Bessie mooin'. So I thought maybe I'd ask you all.
HOW DO YOU MILK A COW? How do you milk a cow? I think it's safe to say A man could get arrested for this in LA This heifer must be empty 'cause she ain't puttin out. Oh E I E I O, Tell me how do you milk a cow.
(Spoken) This song is absolutely an "udder" disaster. I hope I don't get mad cow diease.
How do you milk a cow? I no longer care. I'm gettin sick and tired of smellin' dairy air. I'm headin' back to Cali And I'm turnin' in my plow. Oh E I E I O. How do you milk a cow?
On Saturday Christine attended the first of 3 classes she has at http://www.mopa.org/. While she was in class, we(Ivan, Rebekah, Nathan and I) wandered around Balboa Parkhttp://www.balboapark.org/. We have done this a few times before (last was for the Warhol exhibit at the art museum). This time we went into the Automobile museumhttp://www.sdautomuseum.org. They had a Tucker on display (which I thought was pretty cool). They also had a police car exhibit and a real life "Guido" (from cars) After we grabbed a bite and the sandwich shop just inside the Hall of Champions http://www.sdhoc.com. We did not go in because I dont think anyone except the adults would care at all. The we went over to Ivan favorite museum, The Air and Space Museum http://www.sandiegoairandspace.org/. It just so happened to be space day 2007 so they had telescopes set up on the lawn and a bunch of displays in the dome. The building itself is pretty neat and has a bit of local history. It was originally built by Ford motor for the International Expo. The dome is actually a octa-tetra structure which I realized on my first visit while laying in the dome/courtyard looking up. (http://familyclassroom.net/hsboys/articles/octa-tetra.html) And then it was time to go pickup Christine and head off to a birthday party.
This coming weekend we hope to hit a puppet show at The Marie Hitchock puppet theater http://www.balboaparkpuppets.com. Too bad we were a bit late last week, it was the Princess and the Pea. This weekend it is a Grimm brothers Tale I am not familar with. Not sure what we will hit after that. Then when Christine gets out we will visit the Museum of Man http://www.museumofman.org/ which I hear IS NOT everyone favorite due to a large display on evolution. Both of the girls wanted to go there on our last visit to see the Tattoo and adornment display but we were out of time and now that exhibit is gone. But they do have a hands on exhibit as well as an Indian Fair and 2 good egypt/mummy displays. Perhaps we will see the history museum now that they are in the free with discovery science center membership group (I forget the name). Last time we went, they werent and if not for the chocolate display, I would have been disappointed at the money spent as they are a bit more then the other museums. I can't currently get their website to work (gateway timeout) to see what the current special display is. But, I can see at the end of June they will have the something on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The weekend after, Rebekah will be at camp. Christine wants to see the art museums, The San Diego Museum of Art http://www.sdmart.org, and/or The Timken http://www.timkenmuseum.org/. I, personally would like to see the Veterans Museum http://www.veteranmuseum.org.
We shall see.
They also have a railway museum that is constantly changing, a carousel and of course the zoo.
I love this video...I remember it from old MTV Catchy tune too. I wanted to do this a few weeks ago BUT I couldnt find it.
"You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon
A man walks down the street He says why am I soft in the middle now Why am I soft in the middle The rest of my life is so hard I need a photo-opportunity I want a shot at redemption Dont want to end up a cartoon In a cartoon graveyard Bonedigger bonedigger Dogs in the moonlight Far away my well-lit door Mr. beerbelly beerbelly Get these mutts away from me You know I dont find this stuff amusing anymore If youll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you betty And betty when you call me You can call me al
A man walks down the street He says why am I short of attention Got a short little span of attention And wo my nights are so long Wheres my wife and family What if I die here Wholl be my role-model Now that my role-model is Gone gone He ducked back down the alley With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl All along along There were incidents and accidents There were hints and allegations
If youll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you betty And betty when you call me You can call me al Call me al
A man walks down the street Its a street in a strange world Maybe its the third world Maybe its his first time around He doesnt speak the language He holds no currency He is a foreign man He is surrounded by the sound The sound Cattle in the marketplace Scatterlings and orphanages He looks around, around He sees angels in the architecture Spinning in infinity He says amen! and hallelujah!
If youll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you betty And betty when you call me You can call me al Call me al
Ok not really... More like what we have done lately..... Although I really hate making posts like this....I always feel like I am making a shopping list... We (meaning Rebekah) cleaned out her video shelf and we took the old ones up to Kaiser because most of their pediatric rooms are still working their way into the DVD age, we also delivered a few books we picked up at our park days book swap. We went to the renaissance faire, it was fun but too hot for most members of my family. The weather has warmed up so, we also spent a little bit of time at the beach. and wow, now I cant remember anything else....need to get the calendar out Ah yes, we attempted to spend a few hours at the CHN (california homschool network) campout...at Oneil Park but that didnt turn out too well. We left our house 2 hours later then I intended and then the kids whined and whined and whined....I think we ended up being there about an hour. We also attended a birthday party. Rebekah spent most of the time in the pool. Now if she would just SWIM. Today, with Girl scouts we went to build a bear.....I think they need a nice quiet area ....not just quiet...sound proof for parents.....where we can drink coffee and read a book.....I have nothing against kids, but white noise drives me insane so the white noise and the kids, really tests my limits in the store, outside was fine but actually in there WHOA Tomorrow is a cardiology visit, Rebekah is scared. She thinks he is going to ambush her and perform surgery right then. Tomorrow also brings the montly sign night at starbucks in Orange. Saturday Christine has a photography class at MOPA. Actually every saturday in May she does....we will visit various museums normally after the class except tomorrow as she has a birthday party to attend. Yep that what we've done lately... outside of the normal that is...(dance, park, girlscouts and various other normal errands)
